History Walk 2007

As The Lexington Cemetery approaches the 160th anniversary of the act by the Kentucky General Assembly that was approved on February 5, 1848 to incorporate The Lexington Cemetery and authorize it to establish a rural, or garden, cemetery, it was appropriate for The Lexington Cemetery to invite the community to join its staff for a History Walk.

The guided walk was led by Kentucky Historian Ronald Bryant on Saturday September 8, 2007 at 10 a.m. beginning at the Henry Clay Monument.

Bryant traced the history of Lexington and its cemetery created by the 1848 act of the legislature.  Walkers learned the significance of statuary and about some of the interesting people who established and helped develop Lexington, once known as "The Athens of the West."
